Educational Background
Karen was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She has an Art Education degree from the University of Wisconsin. She has also studied at Milwaukee's Layton School of Art and at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. She taught elementary art for several years in Milwaukee and has taught workshops and seminars in Ohio and Indiana. Karen paints with watermedia, primarily fluid acrylic, in an aqueous manner, sometimes using collage, for landscape and earthforms in both nature oriented and contemporary abstract concepts. "My paintings reflect a statement about the subject, not just an image. I paint with reactions to, and emotions about the inter-relatedness of everything in the universe, relationships between peoples, animals, plants and all of nature. This is not necessarily just about the present, but past influences and relationships.
